by Franca, Julia and Magdalena

Leigh Bardugo was born in Jerusalén, on April 6, 1975, and grew up in Los Ángeles. She studied in the University of Yale, graduating in 1997.

Her debut novel was Shadow and Bone, published in 2012, and was the opening of the Grishaverse, an universe that Leigh would continue exploring with the duology Six of Crows, published in 2015 and 2016, and the duology Nikolai, published in 2019 and 2021.

Leigh Bardugo suffers from osteonecrosis* and sometimes needs to use a walking stick, a fact that she reflects on one of the main characters from Six of Crows, who also suffers from a leg disease.

In 2019, she won the Inkopt Award, and the same year the Goodreads Choice Winner for Best Fantasy Book.

We chose Leigh Bardugo to write about because she is an author that the three of us like, plus we think she is a great example of how, no matter what gender you write, you can identify yourself with the characters, and that gives her characters and plots an unusual depth.
