Jorge Luis Borges

By Lucio and Franco

He was born in Argentina. When he was 15, he moved to Switzerland with his family. He studied in Collège de Genève Switzerland . In 1921 he moved again to Buenos Aires. In 1955 he was appointed director of the Argentine national library. At the age of 55 he was almost complety blind. In all his life he won 26 literary awards. The genres he wrote were poetry, short stories, and essays. His best known works are El  Aleph, EL libro de arena, El hacedor. He died of liver cancer in 1986, aged 86.

The stories we chose are El Aleph and El libro de arena

The genre of The Aleph is Short Fiction and that of The Book of Sand is Science Fiction. The plot of The Aleph is about unrequited love. The plot of The Book of Sand is about a book that has neither beginning nor end. The characters in El Aleph are Beatriz (Borges's old friend), Carlos (Beatriz's cousin) and the narrator, who is Borges.

The characters in The Sand Book are:

Borges young and old.

Javier and Urica.

Alexander.

Max Preetorius and Uncle Edwin.

The captive and Juan Moreira.

High King and the poet.

Eudoro Acevedo.

Ezra Winthrop and Eric Einarsson.

Avelino Arredondo.

The exiled king and the woodcutter.

Borges.

We chose Borges beacuse he is a very important writer from Argentina
