In 2019, she won the Inkopt Award, and the same year the Goodreads Choice Winner for Best Fantasy Book.

We chose Leigh Bardugo to write about because she is an author that the three of us like, plus we think she is a great example of how, no matter what gender you write, you can identify yourself with the characters, and that gives her characters and plots an unusual depth.

Horacio Quiroga

by Juan, Ezequiel, Luca and Felipe

Life of Horacio Quiroga

He was born on December 31, 1878, in Salto, a town in Uruguay. And he died on February 19, 1937, in Buenos Aires.

He began studying in Montevideo and during those years he became interested in literature. Being with his first girlfriend, he wrote "A Season of Love". And in 1899 he founded the "Revista de Salto" in his hometown.

In 1900 he wrote "Diary of a trip to Paris". In this story, he tells of his experiences with Rubén Darío.

Years later he would move to Buenos Aires. Where he would write "Los arrecifes de coral" and "El crímen de otro".

Hospitalized in Buenos Aires, he was discovered gastric cancer, a disease that seems to have been the cause that drove him to suicide, since he ended his days by ingesting cyanide.

His first attempts were mere imitations of Edgar Allan Poe, with whom he shared a special preference for violence and madness; thus, some of his first stories, such as "The slaughtered chicken" or "The persecutor", can be classified within the so-called bloody stories.

Tales of the Jungle

This is a book made up of several stories. These stories have different plotsLet's take, for example, the story "The giant turtle." For this job he would earn money to feed his brothers. Days passed and this man was cured. One day he saw that a lion was attacking a turtle. The hunter aimed his spit at the predator between its two eyes and blew its head off. The turtle was dying and its head hung from its body by three strands of flesh. So the man cared for her and cured her until one day the turtle woke up and the man got sick. When the turtle saw the hunter in that state, it took him to Buenos Aires so that he can be cured.

The Cutthroat Hen

Until one day Bertita, daughter of Berta and Manzzini, were born. The parents were very happy and left the idiots to their fate. One day the servant of the house slaughtered a hen to make food, but she had not noticed the presence of the idiots. They were stunned by the color of the blood emanating from the hen. One day Bertita went to her brothers because she was bored, and they blew themselves away when they saw her sister. One of the four grabbed her by the neck and led her to the kitchen. Her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles (1920), introduced Hercule Poirot, her eccentric and egotistic Belgian detective; Poirot reappeared in about 25 novels and many short stories before returning to Styles, where, in Curtain (1975), he died. The elderly spinster Miss Jane Marple, her other principal detective figure, first appeared in Murder at the Vicarage (1930). Greetings dear teachers and students!!

My name is Verónica Pena. I am one of the teachers at Escuela Técnica Lugano,  (ET.UBA Lugano UBA) which is part of the University of Buenos Aires.

The school building is located in the south of the city of Buenos Aires. At first we started working on the premises of the CBC (Ciclo Basico Comun) UBA, located in the same area. That went on for two years. In 2018 we moved to the school building, which is new and large enough to hold as many as 500 students. That is the number of students we have at present.

Ours is a young school. We started working in 2015 with just two first year classes. Since last year we have been working in full sway!

ETEC is a technical school and the students can choose between two specializations: ICT's and Mechatronics.

In our school, the students attend English lessons according to their level of competence in the language. The groups are reduced in number to facilitate learning and student-teacher interaction. The school has got 6 teachers of English and we work as a team.

We are glad to get to know you and exchange messages with you to share opinions and experiences. This is a great opportunity to enhance our English.

We look forward to hearing from you soon.

Keep in touch!!
